Yukon Growing local food in a sub-arctic climate - Canadian Farm and Food

It’s true, the Yukon grows food! And yes, we grow food outdoors, in fields and in backyards just like the rest of Canada. With upwards of 20 or so hours of daylight in summer time (known as the Midnight Sun) greenhouses can actually get too much light. In fields, cabbages have been known to explode with zest as they grow and grow sucking in energy from the long days. It’s not uncommon to see one of these big, green heads weigh in like a bowling ball.
